Department of Commerce And Management

Currently, the department has a total strength of 220 students and ten faculty members. We have adopted course curricula and continuous evaluation benchmarks of international standards in education with a rich industry-academia interaction.
The department has five MBA’s and a combination of faculty members with several years of teaching / industry experience and some fresh post graduates. We  work as a team by encouraging mentor-mentee relationship amongst faculty. Some of our faculty are pursuing their higher studies and are registered for doctoral programmes. For a young department like ours, it is encouraging to know that the total combined industry experience in the department is over 30 years.
Our faculty development programmes, the list of distinguished visitors to our campus and many more bear ample testimony to our efforts to make our B.Com & B.B.M. programmes the best in the country based on a focused approach with respect to the critical areas of curricula, teaching-learning methodology and student support.
The curriculum includes a courses on Foreign Language and International Culture to expose the students to globalisation which brings in varied work environment and culture. The course also helps students to develop basic communicative language skills in either French, German or Japanese which helps equip them to be global industry players. Art and Creativity Management, Workplace Relations & Emotions  and Career Skills, Non Profit Management, Leadership, Entrepreneurship are some of the other core courses which meets the acute demand for a broad based programme designed to help the students pursue higher studies and / or to help them laterally shift to various rapid growth sectors of Indian economy.
The syllabii is updated from time to time as per the recommendations of the Board of Studies to keep up with industry needs. We practice the bottom up approach in syllabus development and revision.
The department focuses on overall development of the student’s imparting soft skills through Projects and Seminar presentations and by encouraging Students’ activities and Industrial visits. Value education and Professional ethics are also an integral part of the curricula and these do carry credits. We take extra effort in inculcating amongst our students a sense of pride in Indian culture. This is met by courses as Evolution of Indian Business, Learning for Life (across all 6 semesters) and Sanskrit (as second language).
Stress is laid on improving the teaching-learning process. Interactive teaching methods, wide usage of LCD projectors to supplement the chalk and talk method, weekly faculty meetings, weekly class committee meetings, peer evaluation and evaluation by students are a few methods by which the department aims to improve the standard of education delivered to our students. Student support programs like coaching for competitive exams and encouragement of co-curricular and extra curricular activities are also an integral part of the system.
As part of our measure to build industry relationship, we invite accomplished, successful industry personnel to engage interactive sessions with our students. As part of the Amrita Sambhasanam programme it is a time tabled activity of two three hour-sessions / week, The Sambhasanam provides an opportunity for our students to real life industry exposure which helps them appreciate the expectations after academics.
The department prides itself for its rapid growth and for its effectiveness in implementing a healthy teaching learning atmosphere. With a perfect amalgamation of dedicated faculty and motivated students, it is envisaged that the department of Commerce & Management would continue to contribute immensely towards the growth of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and our society.
