Amrita School of Arts & Sciences

Amrita School of Arts & Sciences at Amritapuri Campus took its birth from AMMA's educational vision as "Amrita Institute of Computer Technology (AICT)" in 1990 at Puthiakavu, a village in Kollam district. AMMA's suggestion was to rear a generation that could successfully meet the rigorous demands of the Informatin Age and, at the same time, be imbued with noble ideas of selfless service and love. Her vision still continues to as the aim and objective of the School.

In its budding stages, the institute offered Diploma and PG Diploma courses in computer applications. By AMMA's divine grace, the institute was recognized by Ministry of IT, Government of India to offer the diploma programmes of DOEACC, a department under the Ministry of IT. Then it started offerring various government recognised programmes like O Level, A Level, B Level, etc. These were long term programmes offered during that time. The institute stood in the forefront among the institutes in Kerala and India as well and still it continues to be. As per AMMA's direction, centers were started in different parts of our country. In 1998, AICT at Amritapuri was awarded an Annual Award of Excellece by DOEACC. On later stages, in 2000, in collaboration with Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, the institute offered B.Sc. in Software Systems and M.Sc. in Software Information Systems. This institute was also one and only private institutions as CSI (Computer Society of India) Chapter.

In 2003, Amrita Institute of Computer Technology came under the ambit of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, deemed university. Now, it is young and called as Amrita School of Arts & Sciences under the shade of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The school has a team of excellent dedicated faculty members with good teaching experience. Some of the faculty members are from abroad and other premier institutes in India. Through their dedicated and sincere effort, academics at School of Arts & Sciences become fruitful for the students. The curriculum of each programme is set at par with the industrial requirements.

To create a learning environment rooted in the eternal values of Sanatana Dharma, where business ideas will be created and leaders will be moulded to power Bharath’s economic growth and global business activity.

OBJECTIVES:


To provide the students a good understanding about the economic, social, cultural, legal, ethical and political framework within which businesses and individuals operate.

To contribute to their personal growth by helping them build marketable skills, enhance career prospects and create productive options for the future.

To sensitise the students to the need to live their lives rooted in the eternal values in the current business scenario.

Amrita School of Arts & Sciences established in 2003 has rapidly grown in stature and reputation since its inception. In 2006, it was decided to start a BCom & BBM programme in Commerce & Management (C&M) in response to the growing need for middle level management personnel for various industries.
The curricula and syllabii were drawn from the best of the under graduate C&M programmes in the country and abroad. Experts from academia such as Dr. V. S. Somanath (ASB), Dr. S. Krishnamoorthy (ASB), Dr. Sanjay Banerji (ASB), Prof. Shrikant Kulkarni (ASB), Dr. G. J. N. Nair (BARC), Mr. N. A. Neelakantan etc. provided valuable inputs and guidance in creating and shaping the new program. In addition, the curriculum and the electives were extensively discussed with many top industry leaders such as Mr. O. P. Bhatt (SBI), Mr. R. Ganesh (WH Brady), Mr. V. S. Nair (Reliance), Mr. P. Sankaranarayanan (US Technologies), Mr. Sharad Gupta (Uniplus) and Mr. Praveen Lal (Supra Data).
