Department of Physics

Department was brought into being in the summer of 2006, in response to Amma's call for pure science education in our University. Students from our first batch are now in their 3rd year, and looking forward to receiving BSc degrees in physics and mathematics in the spring of 2009. They will then have the option to continue on to the MSc level.

We are the place where it all begins - virtually all of modern technology was born in physics research. Some of the most exciting ideas for new technology and new understanding are currently being researched in physics labs around the world. As a department, our mission is to prepare students to enter the forefront of scientific development.

Beyond that immediate focus, an education in physics teaches how to analyze and solve problems. The problem-solving and critical thinking skills we impart will serve our students in well whatever field they choose to enter, in solving personal problems, and in such simple things as making sure the light comes on when the switch is flipped.

Perhaps most important of all, the skills our students acquire will enable them to provide the highest quality service to society and to their fellow human beings.

Our latest group of students, the first-years, is more than three times as large, in testimony to our rapid growth. As our student body grows, we are acquiring high quality faculty and equipping new labs to keep pace. We look forward to beginning a post-graduate study program soon, in which we will offer the PhD degree.

Infrastructure & Facilities

We provide additional facilities for students such as Virtual Lab, Demolab, etc which helps the students to improve their thinking ability and to analyze things in a different way. The department possesses a moderately equipped Lab of bachelor' s level. The department library consists of books of more than 200 titles and department is also rich in e learning resources. The lab development is done on a regular basis to cop up with the need for the upcoming batch of integrated M.Sc students. Teaching using Power point presentations, use of intranet for teaching etc some methods the department follows. Apart from the departmental seminar sessions organized for students and teachers of department, we allow students to get in touch with the progressing areas and new trends in science.
